I hate that this song exists.
I started writing it in August after visiting my grams who was recovering from brain surgery to remove a glioblastoma. A month later I found out my aunt never woke up from a liver transplant, joining my uncle about a year after his passing. My grams then passed in early October. My Papa took her death really hard, and he passed away a month later. What was meant to be a reflection on a moment of pain now represents a whole season of loss.
Because of this I’ve grown closer to my immediate family in ways I wouldn’t have imagined. This song is about trying to make sense of good things that come at too high a price.
